Chapter 2:

Scope

To achieve IDCA’s mission, the following activities have been determined to be in scope defining IDCA’s role.  Since the “Aviation industry” as defined in the mission statement is broad, the scope will be limited to all aspects (design, manufacture, certification, and continued airworthiness) of the Commercial Aviation Industry.  Activities in scope can include:

  • Defining and accepting value chains where collaborative data sharing is expected to bring value to the aircraft industry by solving a problem collectively.

  • Defining the type of data in scope (aircraft configuration data, aircraft operational data, part 145 data, other) and its usage.

  • Defining the common benefits of solving the problem that is in-scope.

  • Defining and estimating the impact of risks that must be addressed and overcome by creating and accepting norms as part of the consortium’s rulemaking role.

  • Exploring value exchange / monetization methods and economic models.

  • Identifying and validating generic data sharing and data exchange methods that can be of value to the industry

  • Identifying and using existing international standards as needed; identifying gaps and working with SDOs to fill those gaps. Work on new standards if not addressed elsewhere.

  • Enabling traceability (defined differently in various cases) is a critical concern that will be addressed to find and define standards that are acceptable to the industry and authorities.

  • Actively bringing academic- or applied research alongside active or soon to be established working groups and/or steering groups to determine topic relevancy for future business..
